  1. Aurora Grad says:

Here’s a thread from Cleveland.com about this school garage sale. Do they really think that people are behind what they want to fund with the proceeds? I would think people would be much more willing to participate if it was to offset the price of a school trip or for new classroom materials or more importantly something that impacts school safety or anything but spending more on athletics.

    1/13/08 7:45 ET

“How out of touch are these schools? How about 50% goes toward the purchase of anything that we need to improve school security — that is after we make a comprehensive plan.
Does anyone else think the priorities are really screwed up here? I’m fine with athletics but I’d like to see all of the kids safe first.”

    11/14/08 16:30 ET

“Let’s review parts of the nine point plan dealing with the gun issue that was put in place by the board without input from anyone outside the main office. Also, here is what has or has not happened since the incident on September 24th.
    * Administration will visit classrooms to talk with students about school safety and the urgency to report something that isn’t safe. This reinforces the notion that communication and vigilance is the key.#This hasn’t happened.

    * Police presence in the district will increase. Officers will have a greater presence on grounds and will ride buses now and then.#One officer has been seen for many days but the police presence has disappeared for the most part.

    * Teacher training in identifying and reacting to safety concerns will increase.#This hasn’t happened. An inservice day went by on November 4th and there was no training.

    * Staff members will be required to wear identification badges.#This IS happening. Score one!

    * Hold more lockdown drills and debrief with students about safe behaviors and the necessity to tell an adult if they witness an inappropriate act.#This has partially happened. There have been a couple lockdown drills but nobody has been debriefing students.

    * During health lessons in all grades, have lessons and discussions with students about choices, safe behaviors and modeling healthy behaviors and decisions.#This is unknown but let’s give them the benefit of the doubt.

    * Post the Safe Schools Tipline in the schools.#This has been done! It took nine years after Columbine and the discovery of guns and ammunition in Aurora High to impact the posting of this?!

    * Work with community agencies and law enforcement to hold a community program on maintaining safe communities.#Ha. Community program? Get the community involved? When?

Oh, by the way, don’t forget, there’s a garage sale coming up to benefit the turf fund.”

    11/16/08 19:45 ET

“i think the turf we have now was a good investment because its ohio, and within a week of soccer and football season the field is just mud. but now all the new improvements for the stadium planned is just getting ridiculous. its high school sports, we dont need a video score board or any of all this stuff planned. The theatre program hardly gets anything new, why doesnt anybody spread the wealth to something other than football?”

    11/16/08 20:29 ET

    “That’s how the world works.
There’s no glory in theatre. That’s unless you become “famous” then every single person in town will have known you”

    11/17/08 11:43 ET

“I agree with you and sympathize with the point you are making. Problem is like ITB said that for not so wonderful reasons football is more glorious. If Aurora had a really awesome basketball team they’d be putting money there too. I think it is unfortunate that safety, academic achievement and other extra curricular achievement take a back seat to athletic achievement but it is what it is. However, as tax payers we should insist that money be used in better ways. I mean realistically how many kids are going to go on from AHS to play pro football to earn a living? However, the academics do play a part in their future. If they want to do a budget bin thing to raise money for turf then that is misguided but fine. I can choose not to spend my money on that, but if you are using my tax dollars for more turf then I’m going to scream foul.”

  2. Denise says:

    PLEASE LET ME CLARIFY:

My name is Denise. I live in Aurora. I started the Treasure Trove 2 weeks ago after attending Solon’s Budget Bin. I left wondering why we couldn’t do this in Aurora. Solon uses their proceeds for a few scholarships. I thought that we could use the money to affect a larger amount of people. I was aware that the Greenmen Pride Organization was trying to raise money to make improvements at the highschool stadium and possibly put in a second turf field. This would benefit football/soccer/lacrosse/band/cheerleading etc…

I am doing this on my own with a large group of VOLUNTEERS! This is not being run by the schools or the city. NO TAX DOLLARS ARE INVOLVED!!!! I’m sorry that one of the poster’s on this site misunderstood what this sale was about. It’s a shame, because we are just a group of parents that chose to do a lot of hard work to try and help their city. If this first sale is successful, we hope to continue having them in the future helping out other causes. I’m sure their are many in Aurora that would like our help.

Also, feel free to start your own fundraiser for your group to raise money. The city and football are supportive of what I’m trying to do because I’m working hard for free. They will benefit from what I am doing. Anyone willing to volunteer for this sale is welcome. This isn’t all about football. It’s about our city!!!
    Sincerely,
    Denise

  3. Aurora Grad says:

It is not about our city. It is about sports again. Solon’s Budget Bin is also put on all by volunteers. Not every person is going to use the turf just as not every person would get a scholarship but they do try to give those to the most well rounded students and not just athletes or the ones with the highest grades. Just seems that with all of the safety issues that have hit our schools recently that a second turf field seems frivolous.

You either misunderstood or misread the posts from the other site. No one said that tax money is being used. I’m paraphrasing but basically it said that what the funds from this fundraiser are going toward are misguided but it isn’t taxpayer money so it is the people who choose to support this that are putting their own money toward the turf fund.

Just wanted to point out what others are saying.

  4. glguy says:

You can bang your head against the wall about sports being too important, but they are the #1 thing in the whole country, not just Aurora.

Almost every restaurant has TVs with sports on. Most all kids (and adults) idolize sports figures, wear sports clothing, blah blah. Sports talk is huge.

Sports sells, people relocate for high school sports. Football draws huge crowds.

I don’t follow sports. I was not a participant in sports when i was in school, i was not good at anything, but today there is something for almost every student. And the turf field is used for gym classes and almost all outdoor sports.

There isn’t an improvement that could have affected more students and more residents than the turf field. A second field would be great, the soccer fields are crappy, the city rec progams could use some space too. Go up to the high school some evening in late August and see how many kids are using the fields.

And as far as security, i don’t want cops in the schools or on the busses. One dirtbag and one prank phone call, big deal. I don’t even think the kids should have been expelled, they should have been encourage to learn from doing such stupid stuff.

  5. Denise says:

I\’m sorry that you take issue with what my fundraiser is going for. I volunteer for a lot in this city. I\’m assistant teaching PSR at my church, I was team mom for my son\’s football team, I am on yearbook committee, I help my kids teachers anytime that I can, I work concession stands and help with all my kids activities. I am amazed at the great response that I have received from others in this community that see how important volunteering can be. We have also got our kids involved to obtain service hours and see that they can have a positive effect on our city. I don\’t think it should matter the cause. Instead, it\’s more important that people in our Community get involved. The Theatre community should join together to make a difference. I\’m just trying to do a good thing. It is not necessary to call my giving \

  6. Denise says:

I am so proud of the response that I have received from Aurora residents regarding the Treasure Trove sale. This whole idea began just 3 weeks ago and we have over 30 consignors and many many donors, not to mention an amazing group of volunteers. People I’ve never even met have given me great support. It seems that people have even shared their connections to other people they felt would be able to help me in some way. This has been an great experience and I’m very excited for our first sale. I’m sure it will be a little “rough around the edges” but hopefully, it’s successful enough that we can do it again.
We’ve had some help from UPS in Barrington Square making us our fliers and Syrna’s deli is donating 500 brown paper bags so we can bag up sold
items. My team: Cathy Posner, Steve Scherl, Rhonda Horan, Sherry Graham, Ann Larrance and Sharon Demicco have been invaluable with all of their help and support. We are still accepting consignors and are still in need of volunteers. If you are able to help for even an hour or two, please call me at 330-562-4533. You can help make this a successful fundraiser so that we can help many causes in Aurora for years to come.

  7. My name is Suzi Castiglione and I am a co-chair of Solon’s Budget Bin Sale. I was old about Aurora’s Sale. My only wish is that they would have talked to us before using some of our information word for word.

I would also like to clarify something that was posted here by the perrson who is coordinating Aurora’s sale….saying that we use the proceeds to fudn a “FEW” scholarships is interesting. Last year we gave 28 students a $1000 scholarship each. If giving $28,000 in scholarships qualifies as giving out a few scholarships…..well, you might want to rethink your definition of a few.

Also, our sale benefits a larger amount of people than you can ever imagine. First of all, consignors have been earning money from this sale since the 1950’s. Consignors make money, shoppers get great deals, families in need from the Solon School district are invited to come in and take what they need with no questions asked. We have a $5 a bag day at the end of our sale. Many people benefit from this. When the sale is completely over, we have a long list of LOCAL charities who come in and are allowed to take items specific to their needs and the people they serve. NOTHING is wasted!!! We also allow our Drama department, MH classes and any teachers or advisors to come in and take what they can use int he classroom or at their events. Last sale we were fortunate enough to receive a huge donation of old uniform from out athletic department. We made $1600 on these items alone. The Athletic Boosters can and took items they couuld use as centerpieces for their awards banquet. Our After Prom committee, of which I am involved, was also allowed to take items we could use for decorations and new items we could use for prizes.

We receive bags from SIRNA’S Markets.

LASTLY…..is our FEW scholarships. This year I am sure we will be able to award more than $30,000 in scholarships to deserving Solon Gaduating Seniors. This is not the ones with the highest GPA, but well-rounded students judged anonymously, by a panel of a dozen reviewers to make the process as fair as possible.

Our sale helps far more people than you now.

Response to Suzi (Co-chair of Solon’s Budget Bin)

It is not necessary to be upset with Aurora’s Treasure Trove Sale and/or it’s volunteers. We have been some of your greatest supporters and appreciate you leading the way. Let me explain. I was invited by a friend to your fall sale of ’08. After shopping for more than 3 hours and finding great deals, I was very impressed. I have had many a garage sale in my past, but now that I live in Aurora with only a few neighbors, garage sales just aren’t very effective and too dependent on the weather. I left your sale thinking, “wow, why aren’t we doing this?” Our Greenmen Pride Organization in Aurora had been looking for donations and I thought it would be a great way to help them out. Then, we could always choose different causes with each sale. I came home from your sale and called the organizers from the Greenmen Pride. They loved the idea and spoke to our school Superintendent requesting the use of the gymnasium. I was given the use of the gym for a sale that needed to go off in 3 weeks. I’m well aware that your sale has gone on for years and that it’s run by your PTO. The Aurora Treasure Trove sale began with just me. I called some friends and formed a team to quickly start organizing. We had to advertise, make signs, find tables, clothes racks etc… all in 3 weeks. Please be proud that your sale was the INSPIRATION for this. We managed to pull off an amazing sale and also helped many with items from the sale. The school received books, movies, clothing, games etc… Aurora’s Library received books, movies, CD’s, and several needy families were given items. The remaining items went to Volunteers of America. I was very proud how the community came together so quickly to make our first sale a success. So, yes, we did base the guidelines for our sale on yours. We are now having our second sale this week (April 3rd to 6th)
and have since made some changes that differs from Solon’s Budget Bin.
We do not offer shopping on drop off day. Since we are fairly new at this, we felt it was simpler to first accept all donated/consigned items, get them tagged and on tables and open the doors for the sale ready to go the next morning. Also, we have 25% off on Sunday and 50% off on Monday. (no bag it day). This is just to name a few.
As for the “few” scholarships comment. That was not meant as a slam to your cause. Of course scholarships are important. When we sat down to discuss what ours would go for, we discussed how to effect as many Aurora residents as we could. The Greenmen Pride Organization is responsible for improving our high school football stadium into a turf field. They also intend on remodeling the bathrooms, concession stand and adding a spirit wear “store”. The turf field has had a great impact on the community. Several of our sports teams (soccer, football, lacrosse) of all ages (including gym classes) have benefited from the new field. For this sale, we have also included the Aurora Schools Foundation which helps band, orchestra, theatre, after school groups, scholarships etc… so that we could continue to share our proceeds with the whole community. Please note that I even recently attended your Spring sale as a “shopper”. I loved finding some great deals and spent over $80.00 on clothes for my children. I invited friends (who also attended and shopped) and have always been supportive of your sale. Their is plenty of room for all of us to help our communities.

  10. Denise,

I am not upset with your sale. I am disappointed what you did. The interesting thing is that I tried to find information on your sale when I was told about it. Nobody knew anything. My intention was to offer to put out fliers for your sale. I, personally, contact dozens of other organizations and offer to put out information for their events….since you were at our sales, you would have seen fliers and other promotional information. When I found what you had posted on the Craddock website my jaw dropped. I would never lift someone else’s words like that without talking to them…and even then I would have used a little imagination and changed the wording. It would not have taken too much effort.

Our sale is run by our Solon Council of PTA. We are very proud of our sale. This Spring alone we grossed over $27,000. Since you did once again attend our sale in the Spring you had ample opportunity to speak with us. What a shame you did not do this. We could have shared what worked and did not work and maybe even given you other guidance.

I think that since you lifted much of our information word for word, that you should have had the courtesy to at least mention it to us. Had this been the case of a book or something similar, it would be considered plagurism. It just would have been a common courtesy. I shared your information with a number of peope in and out of Solon and every single response was the same…actually some were more vocal than others. We do hope that since you will respect our sale dates in the future. Some did question your current dates.

You can say you changed the format all you want, but the fact is you used our words…you obviously made changes from your first sale to fit your situations, but we still see wording that was pretty much copied and pasted.

I can say for a fact that had we wanted to “emmulate” an event you had, we would have gone about it in a much more courteous way. In fact, we have had a number of organizations contact us about our successful sale that dates back over 50 years. We have provided guidance and even files and copies of our forms. So, it is not about just copying something we have been doing, it is the way you went about it. I have far more respect for the others who were straight forward. What a shame for you as not only did it leave a bad taste in our mouths, but HAD you been kind enough to ask, we would have gone out of our way to help you in many ways….even with our volunteers meeting with your committe, offering guidance in how to set up, publicize and more….

Volunteers of American will never be invited to pick up anything from our sale again. They came to get some things and although they promised to come back for the rest, they never showed up and never contacted us. We don’t allow anything to go to waste. We make sure everything gets to some charity or need…Libraries, inner city Cleveland schools, Womankind, Westhaven Youth Shelter, Trinity Homeless Ministry, Options for Family and Youth, Westside Catholic Center, Dress for Success, Jewish Womens Council and much more….

You might want to look back as I never said I was upset with your volunteers….not sure how you came to that conclusion. I am busy all the time volunteering for many different causes. I know the value of good volutneers. And, your comment about only offering a few scholarships…your words verbatim….and wanting to help more people….trust me….we help far more people than you will ever know…AND….over $30,000 in scholarships is far from a few. We touch many, many people in many, many ways.

I will still wish you good luck with your sale as anything that can help people, especially in times like this, can only be a good thing. We only ask that because of your proximity to Solon and the long history of our sale, that you will repsect our sale dates before scheduling your future sales. You can contact me via email to do this.

    Suzi Castiglione

  11. I just now looked at an upbove referenced cleveland.com forum. You actually used “Solon Budget Bin” in your title announcing your sale. Shame on you….or whoever “switchcloser” is….this is what was posted:

“Go to the » Solon forum

1276. Aurora Treasure Trove/Solon Budget Bin
    by switchcloser, 12/6/08 18:51 ET
Aurora is having a treasure trove – similar to Solon’s highly successful budget bin. Monday (12/8) 10-2 50% off and Tues (12/9) is bag day – Tons of items remaining. Stop on by and buy – 105 Hurd Road – Craddock School Gym”

    Tsk, tsk….

  12. taxpayer says:

So Suzi what are you so angry about? That someone in Aurora had a sale like yours and didn’t get your permission? That an “ad” was made up that used some of the same words as yours without your permission? Did you make up the flyer or did your predecessor?

I really don’t think we’re stealing your customers if that’s the issue. I lived in Solon for 10 years before I moved to Aurora. As a Solonite, I would have never driven to Aurora for a “used goods” sale, although I wouldn’t drive to Solon for it now.

I’m sure your time and energy are better spent elsewhere. Get over it, move on…..

  13. Aurora Resident says:

taxpayer, I understand Suzi’s grievance. My former church had a wonderful young children’s program. When I moved to Aurora I contacted the church and they put me in charge of the person that was in charge of the young children’s program. I explained that I liked their program so much that I wanted to start one at my church. She was so helpful! I got emails with attachments, phone numbers of all of the committee members that were “happy to help” and a few days later a huge envelope full of material to “feel free to copy.” Point is two fold: one that I contacted them and told them of my intention and two I was told to copy their collateral. They’d put a lot of time and effort into coming up with it all and it was a great help to not start from scratch. Sounds to me like Denise just “stole” their collateral verbatim without even having the courtesy to ask. It also sounds to me like Suzi would have been of great assistance had Denise taken the time to go about this the right way. How would we feel if our kids did this? If they just copied and pasted something and called it their own?

I also see Suzi’s point that it was offense to say only a few scholarships are given without knowing details. I also think scholarships trump turf but that’s me. Seems to me like Solon also does more with their sale for the community in need and charitable organizations.

Bottom line Denise is it sounds like you’ve burned a bridge that would have been a very helpful resource and posting on the Solon blog with the title Budget Bin is even worse.

Suzi, post when the next Budget Bin is either on here or on the Aurora section of Cleveland.com. I’ll come and bring some friends.

  14. taxpayer/Denise,

I did happen to write up our fliers and other information. So, yes, I can be protective of them. From your post, I gather that you are involved with the sale.

Ths fact that someone would use my exact words without even saying a word is wrong, unethical and if you can’t see that, I can only say we all have different moral and ethical standards.

I have no problem with them having a similar sale….so if you actually read what I wrote, my initial intentions were to offer to put out their fliers. Tell me, how does that show anger? We have been contacted by groups in cities local and out of Ohio who happened up on our ads. We have sent them our files and spoke with them on the phone to offer our assistance. I contact a number of local groups who have sales near ours and always have a table with their fliers. So, we have been more than cooperative, fair and all in good faith. Actually, we swap fliers with many groups. We help each other out up front. We would have done the same if we had been asked. But, rather than ask, they just felt it was fine to use my own words and our name.

However, we all were angry to see that Denise and her volunteers posted their sale using OUR name. It appeared as I copy and pasted above and below:

    Aurora Treasure Trove/Solon Budget Bin

Can you see any problem with that at all other than it is illegal?

If we had been talking about a business, do you think someone could advertise: Joe’s Hamburgers/McDonalds? I think not.

We have shoppers from places much farther than Aurora. So, shoppers are not the issue. Between our Fall and Spring Sale we netted approx. $34,000 and that is after giving consignors their cut. We take no expenses out of our proceeds either…100% goes to our “few” scholarships….which, combined with our proceeds from Kalahari will be about 37 – $1000 scholarships for people from all walks of life.

I absolutely do have a lot to devote my time to….aside from my family, I never missed a beat and am pouring my heart into our After Prom and other committees as well as my office in our PTA, my church, supporting troops through AdoptaPlatoon, Relay for Life and other charities. We are active with Cleveland Food Bank as well.

But, I am passionate about Budget Bin and everything I have done personally to make it even more successful over the last 8 years, so I will always look out for it’s success and well-being. We help far too many people for me not to want to preserve it’s reputation.

    Suzi

  15. Aurora Resident,

Thanks for understanding our feelings about this. We absolutely would have helped anyone who wanted to set up a similar sale.

We would have, however, asked them to use a little of their own creativity to come up with different wording perhaps. I don’t think it would ever have ocurred to me to ask someone to not use our name in their advertising. I think that if you would not do something, you would not expect others to do it either.

Denise mentioned that she had been at our sale…even this past Fall and our recent Spring Sale. She had ample opportunities to speak with us; it would have been the right thing to do. But, she missed that chance. We could have been helpful in so many ways including our publicity points.

We don’t begrudge anyone from such a worthy cause. We are all about helping as many as we can. From the consignors, shoppers, students, charities to the needy families that are invited to come and take whatever ever they want free of charge, we make sure everything has a home and we use none of the proceeds for our expenses.

One of my co-chairs is the daughter of one of the women who originally started Budget Bin back in the 1950’s and she also won a scholarship many years ago. So, you can imagine her disappointment when we came across this.

I’ve said my piece and now I am done…off to more important things.

btw…..we do have our sale dates for the next Fall and Spring Sales. I do hope that Aurora at least has some respect with their timing. If not, then we can only assume it would be intentional.

    October 21 – 27, 2009
    March 17 – 23, 2010

    Thanks,

  16. JMAurora says:

    Wow- So Caddy & Childish
I am so proud of Denise and the had work she has done to raise money for our schools. Regardless of who/where she go the ideas from.
These women are VOLUNTEERS- they are not just sitting around- they are making our community better!

As for Suzi- You have wasted so much time with these caddy notes- get off your soapbox & get a life!

  17. Aurora Resident says:

I think JMAurora you are missing the point. It isn’t about who/or where she got the ideas from. It is about directly copying and using Solon’s collateral verbatim and without permission. I believe everyone would agree that trying to help the schools is great. It was the methodology that was severely flawed. You can certainly admire someone’s intentions without approving of her means.

  18. taxpayer says:

    Suzi,
I am not involved in the sale and I don’t even know Denise or her last name. I used to volunteer alot with PTO, church, and my kids’ activities but have since become more selective. I got very burned out from all of the criticism. There are a lot of people who sit around and say things like “someone should ….you should have done it this way….” but never offer to do it or help.

When I’ve read some of these posts all I see is more criticism of a volunteer trying to do something good. How would you feel if you were being attacked in a public forum? I know how I would feel and while I would like to have empathy for your concerns all I see is someone taking a positive action and turning it into a negative action.

  19. aurora girl says:

Suzi, I know Denise and you should be ashamed of yourself. You have trashed her on this public forum without even knowing her. She is very saddened that her hard work and efforts are tainted by this nonsense. She’s only had good intentions and a good heart. I know, that if anyone used her ideas and info (even without asking) inorder to start up this great cause-that she would not care. It is about the cause—NOT YOUR EGO!!! It seems to me that you are more concerned that Aurora’s sale is going to hurt yours. That’s sad , because there seems to be plenty of people that are really hurting from this economy right now and need these sales more than ever. You have an army of your PTO behind you, she bears the brunt of it all right now. So, with bearing the brunt has also come bearing the attacks. I know it’s really hurt her, but she’s strong and I hope she doesn’t give up because of you. You say she should have called you–then why didn’t you call her instead of hiding behind this forum? It seems that you saw a shameless opportunity to advertise your sale while trashing her. Also, I know for a fact she didn’t post that Treasure Trove/Solon advertisement online. While feverishly getting ready for the first sale–she was approached by many that asked–did you post it on craigslist? on cleveland.com,, etc… Since there wasn’t time–she would reply–“at this point, if you could do that for me, that would be very helpful.”
Therefore, there were many instances that others were posting/advertising to try to help out. Although they meant well, she was very upset to find out it was done in that manner. She didn’t know that until you posted it on this site. Since then, she has instructed any volunteer not to ever do that. As for checking with Solon first to arrange Aurora’s next sale, my advice to Denise is not to do it. It shouldn’t matter who has what sale and when. Even if they were same days or week before or after–it would only draw people to the area. The date should be based on the gym and volunteer availability ONLY!During the Aurora sale, a shopper mentioned that Macedonia was having a sale the same weekend. I heard Denise, while I was shopping, telling others to check out Macedonia’s too. Now that’s the way it should be. She’s also always been very complimentary to Solon (even with all of this junk posted about her). She has told everyone how she was inspired by your sale and recommends going there too! My advice to you Suzi, is to stop taking it so personally. You know how much hard work is involved, stop twisting her words and let it all go. She volunteers for everything from school, sport and community events just as you do. I would hate to see her get burned out from all of this negativity. I will continue to support Aurora’s sale and unless this attitude from Solon changes, I don’t think I would be participating in theirs again. Remember, you are a rummage/consignment sale—get over yourself, you are not a business. Tsk Tsk back at you!!

  20. Bottom line, she had the chance to do something the right way and she did not. She was wrong and should feel badly about the way she went about her sale and not the sale itself.

Aurora Resident – how could I ever have offered to help when I was never approached? Your comment makes no sense. As we had said BEFORE…..had we been approached we would have gone out of our way to assist. But, we were nver given the opportunity or the courtesy.

“I” should have called her???? What about her calling us when she took our information? Why not call us after it was made public that she took our info and used our name in her publicity….the blame lies at her feet where it belongs….maybe her hurt is guilt. Notice something….my name is here and yours is not, so now who is hiding????

I cannot answer the what if it happened to me because it would not have happened to me…….I would have had the courtesy to speakk with someone before taking their information and words as my own. AND, I would NEVER use the good name of someone else’s sale to promote my own sale…..unethical and illegal.

I would think she would be more concerned by the people in her own school district who are complaining about the money going to benefit sports. Butm that was her choice.

I had said I was done with the subject…..but if you want to continue this and keep the wounds open…..go for it and blame nobody but yourselves. Catty or catty?

Even though we are not happy with the way this was done, we still wish Aurora well…..helping people is never wrong. Good luck with your football field.

    My last post here…..

Why can’t anyone (most especially Denise) admit that she was wrong. She should either publicly or privately apologize to Suzi and I’m sure if that would have happened it would have been over. This is not a good example to set for our children (cheating, stealing). I think Denise feels so horribly because she has a guilty conscience. You should either apologize or step aside and turn this event over to someone that is willing to make up their own promotional materials.

As for the post on the solon board I do think that was someone other than Denise because Denise posted on the Aurora board as “dudz” and it was “switchcloser” on the Solon board. I think some over zealous volunteer probably did this but shame on that person as well. What is wrong with my fellow Aurora residents that they are using such poor judgement in the name of “helping the schools.” Again, what kind of an example is this?

Suzi, you did quote me on something I didn’t say but I’m sure you just sited the wrong post. I wish you well and will definitely be bringing my friends to the next Budget Bin. You obviously do just as much volunteer work as Denise but had the integrity to come up with your own wording. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed even by your neighbors to the south.

First off as an Aurora Resident I see nothing wrong with taking a fundraising idea from another community and implementing it. Legally Suzi, Denise did not commit any copyright infridgements by naming it Treasure Trove so get your facts straight. Unless you legally registered your name and business as a non profit and have a Tax ID number she could call it Aurora Budget Bin if she wanted. You have no legal rights to sue. Instead of taking offense you should be honored that your fundraiser is mentioned (thats free advertising). Any fundraising ability should be congratulated not slammed, especially if it benefits the school. With all the horrible things that happen in the world is this really something to argue about? Denise thank you for all your hard work in putting this together. It truly saddens me all this negativity. By the way is this blog Olive Aurora or Olive Solon?

  23. Aurora Resident says:

It isn’t about borrowing an idea. I actually applaud that. It is about copying verbatim their promotional materials. Whether it is legal or not is not my issue. It is unethical regardless of the cause it benefits.

hey….ladies….get jobs….get lives….worry about your own voluntering and pick the causes that are important you and your family…no need to bring each other down…does anyone realize how many of these there are in how many schools across the country..wording???? ive seen it worded the same in different communities across the country…ppplllleeeaaasseeeee…this is not a battle….if you need to fight get in a ring and let loose…way to go to bring both wonderful organizations a little bit of tarnish.
