Does anyone have a topic? The schools seem to be garnering the most attention these days. Any comment about the new Aurora Master Plan? What about a new community center? How will the Geauga Lake development affect Aurora, (43 will be widened) why? is somebody expecting a lot of traffic from a new development? Has someone you know done something interesting? How about someone to review the new bars or restaurants in town. Got a complaint or a compliment? Click comment make up a screen name and add your 2 cents.

Why does W. Pioneer Tr at Bissell now have a street sign of George Hettinger?

  2. Kathy says:

Why the guard rail on Moneta Ave.? The house for sale has no way to park a car behind the house. The “paper street” has been blocked by a guard rail. Must be another one of Vacas, suggestions to the city on behalf of the residents. Wake up Mayor look at the mess he’s made of this neighborhood!!!!

  3. Greenmen says:

The street has had an additional name added to it in honor of the 50 years of public service that Dr. Hettinger has given to the city and people of Aurora. The stretch between Bissell and Route 82 has been named in his honor. He lives on the corner of Bissell and West Pioneer Trail.

What can we do to get a community rec center? I filled out the Parks & Rec survey, but not sure how many people will respond. Is there interest in a rec center?

  5. ITB says:

Sure there’s interest in a rec center. It goes way back to the early-mid 90’s.

I think the problem has many fronts. Obviously the cost. But from what I see the city can’t just build a pool. Or just a spray park. They want to build this giant building that addresses every aspect of life and it then costs a fortune to build and maintain. Look at Macedonia and Twinsburg for perfect examples. They are nice places but cost big bucks.

So now with the city buying every acre of unoccupied land we obtained this house that needs renovating and a pond that’s on the property. From what’s been said in council meetings the city administration wants to have you swim in this lake and run around in the fields enjoying nature.

What would be more practicle is we build a nice outdoor pool for everyone in the city, then partner with another city that already has a rec-center so we only pay a membership fee instead of a membership fee, levy costs, employee costs and maintenence costs.

Regarding the idea for a rec center or pool. Why doesn’t the city work something out with Bainbridge and the Centerville Mill park. There is a pool there although I’m sure it is in need of work. The location would be perfect for citizens of both communities. Just a thought……….

What’s the deal with City Council approving a tax abatement for property owned by a fellow councilman (Vaca). Sounds suspicious. If I get elected to town council, do I get all of my taxes waived too?

What’s the deal with City Council approving a tax abatement for one of its own (Vaca)? Sounds suspicious. If I get elected to Council do I have to pay taxes too?

OLIVE notes: The city has had a number of incentives available for homeowners who add to their homes or make improvements. Very few people have taken advantage of the programs because it can involve extra paperwork and other hassles. Councilman Vaca knows the system and is aware of what is offered, he took advantage of a program, others can also. Hopefully someone from the city could elaborate on what Mr. Vaca did.
