Why are the skateboarders still in the parking lots? I've recently had to dodge them at Heinen's and the post office?

My son and his friends do go to the movie theatre parking lot/Starbucks parking lot to hang out on occasion. They have never gotten in trouble, but if they did they would never go again. They have fun because they can eat at Wendy’s, go to a movie, and talk in the parking lot. The police cruise the lot all the time to watch the kids. Kids can get “in trouble” anywhere……..even in their own backyards and neighborhoods. The key is to have taught them right from wrong so they know how to behave in all situations.
I do agree that we need more for our kids to do, although the skatepark should help, too.

I agree, there is really nothing for kids not old enough to drive to do in this town except for Starbucks and the cinema. A diner or pizza place would be a great thing to have. Most of the kids I've encountered at Starbucks are great kids - just looking for a place to hang with their friends. It's too bad a town that caters itself as a great place to raise kids doesn't have something for kids to do.

Last winter, I had a meeting at Starbucks and was there for quite some time. A group of kids were hanging out in the lot and began a snowball fight, which then turned into pummeling the windows at Starbucks with the snowballs. This went on for a long time. There were some pretty big guys throwing the snowballs hard enough, I truly exepcted the windows to break....and that is alot of glass. People moved away from those seats anticipating the same thing. I am guessing someone went and spoke with them (or they realized what sort of issue could happen), as they moved from throwing at the Starbucks window to within all of the parked cars. I am sure with the strength that the snow was being thrown, cars probably were also "dinged" in the process, and hopefully no windshields were broken. I was glad to finally get my car out of there, though.

I agree that the theatre is nice, but it still does not give young people a place to "hang-out." (Anyone remember the old Aurora Carlos Pizza days of hanging out???) Speaking of American Graffiti, an old diner of sorts (Arnold's for you Happy Days fans) would be a great idea. Lord knows there are enough vacant buildings in the Commons to put something there! I don't think these kids are there to purposely vandalize...it is just boredom with no place to go.
